Six "new" Thomsons & some plans for restoration
I've got some more Thomsons & stuff for my collection and i hope, i'll have some time to restore them in the next weeks (a huge clean-up), 'cause some of them are in a lesser good condition. Some TO7-70 keys are missing, maybe i'll find some spare keys over the internet.
1x MO5, 1x MO6, 1x TO7, 1x TO7-70, 2x TO8D, two disk-drives, a MO5 datasette (not on this picture), joysticks, a lightpen, module, a memory extension and some games.
All computers are working well, beside of the MO6 ... it does "PUFFFFFF" with a lot of smoke. I heared, that this special capacitor is known problem, so i'll replace it with a new one.

Hi TrainingForstuff,
This "Smoky capacitor" had ever been replaced, and helps are available on many tread in this chat.
example: http://forum.system-cfg.com/viewtopic.p ... ur+thomson
... CPL capacitor
Have a look to "remplacement de condensateur de filtage" "explosion du condensateur..."
In your case, the capacitor seem to short-cut the main voltage input.
And, replace this component wont be the key of the problem.
Other components may be destroyed during the capacitor leek.
This component don't seem to be used in the filtering process, and is designed to protect the main power supply!
Just get off this capacitor, or get the wrong replacement capacitor, described in the enclosed link.
But, we usually write techos in French!

Nice catch !
On the TO7 (not the TO7/70) watch out for the radiator at the back. It does REEEAAAAAAALLLLY heat up and you might burn yourself if you're not carefull. Take a picture of the startup screen because you might have under the bonnet either a T9000 or a TO7...

and the TO7/70 should look like THIS

Thanks for your answers ... well, i'm quite happy with my catch.
The TO7/70 Screen looks like it should be. So what's the "real" difference, beside of the startup screen?
I hope, that this capacitor will be the right one ... 100NF, 275V ...

Congrats for your machines. This is quite an impressive collection. The capasitor issue is well known on the Thomson machines. It smells awfull as well when exploded.TrainingForUtopia a écrit :I've got some more Thomsons & stuff for my collection and i hope, i'll have some time to restore them in the next weeks (a huge clean-up), 'cause some of them are in a lesser good condition. The T9000 is the first issue (use to be the protoype ROM)... then they implanted the proper TO7 rom.

If you have some troubles with the floppy drives, give me a call ... I know them by heart and have fully restored many of them.

Re: Six "new" Thomsons & some plans for restoration
Thanks, no problems so far but i'll get back to you.
I cleaned all things and all went fine. I'm now replacing the bad capacitor from the MO6.
