Bull Micral 500
Hey there,
I'm a proud owner of a Bull Micral 500 - a MCA (Microchannel) PC, built in France.
Tomáš already documented it on the one and only Microchannel-Platform
https://ardent-tool.com/Bull/Micral_500.html
What we're missing is a Setup Disk or a so called "Reference Disc", to configure that thing. It's quite similar to the IBM PS/2 Reference Disks.
Maybe someone here has this Floppy laying around? That would be great. And yes, i already asked the Bull Society, archive.org, zenith (a subsidary of bull back then) archives - to no avail.
And now i'm a bit lost
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Bull Micral 500
Hello Schimi,
The Bull Micral 500 is rather rare computer. Although of French origin, we don't have any information about him.
The subject is close to this one viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12145 (about Micral 200, 500 or 600)
or this other viewtopic.php?t=9769
or this other viewtopic.php?t=12313

Re: Bull Micral 500
hello,
you got the one from ebay ? i guess yes as they not appear everyday.
i saw one for a moment, i hesited and even make an offer to the seller but i let down due to what you are facing...
nice machine, but also a nice brick without this unobtainium floppy.
good luck, maybe it'll pop up. who knows
i don't know if it's doable, but modifiying a model 70 reference disk is maybe a way ?
as the 500 is mostly a clone of the 70.

Re: Bull Micral 500
Hi there,
you're right, the IBM PS/2 Model 70 is the closest match to the Micral 500, however it's based around a headland chipset and different slot arragngement - and as some (way more technical advanced) people around the ps/2 newsgroup stated - there might be a board ID you have to address.
From what I can tell, someone from the feb-society mentioned, this computer was built in france, however never distributed in the western part of the EU. This might be the reason we cannot find anything about it
Yes, it originates from ebay UK. I never thought it's such a problem getting information/configuration files for it, since it is no problem getting setup files or even documentation for older Micrals - so I gave it a try. And yes, it's a brick in it's current state - however a pretty one.
@fneck
Sorry to hear that. I already grazed the forum, but you never get past a point it's mentioned or shown - at least it's mentioned here and thatswhy I thought I ask here
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Bull Micral 500
@Stefan, if you find other information, or the diskettes for this computer, come back to us to share them.
I would be very happy to have them even if I don't own the machine.

Re: Bull Micral 500
Hey there,
seems, the quest is over. Tom from the PS/2 Usersgroup directed me to the right path just using the Model 70/80 refdisk. Not everything is detected, like the 640k base memory, but everything else seems to work.
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Bull Micral 500
