[VG5000] what about coding on Boriel’s ZX-Basic Compiler?

Message par nitrofurano »

Hi everyone! first of all, sorry about posting threads and messages in english on a forum in french...

What i'm doing in these months were extending the (amazing, imho) Boriel’s ZX-Basic Compiler to other 8bit hardware beyond ZX-Spectrum only - and since i were successfully extending it to MSX (up to 2+, and meanwhile struggling on v9990, sound etc.), Mattel-Aquarius, MC-1000 (a rare brazilian clone of the also rare GEM-1000/Charlemagne, supported on Mess emulator ), i also started trying to do something for Philips-VG5000 as well

a screenshot: http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/4962/7dr.png
(in the attachment of this thread are the sources used )

for now i didn't start converting the resulting .bin into .k7, but the result i got up to now seems encouraging...

be welcome sharing your thoughts! :)

Hello nitrofurano,

It is a great Idea !
I read with great interest the routines in machine language and the excellent http://www.boriel.com/forum/

thanks for your feedback! since my childhood i was always fascinated with 8bit computers, and VG5000 was one that caught my attention - from one side, since i'm trying to help Boriel's ZX-Basic Compiler development process on extending it to other platforms than merely ZX-Spectrum, i really didn't want to bypass the priority of VG5000 for several reasons, like:
- i believe that VG5000 has more capability (even graphically - i confirmed it from a picture converter i coded for GrafX2, VG5000 included (i have to fix it a bit, the result is not yet accurate - it is somewhere at http://nitrofurano.altervista.org/lua/ ) ) than the, for example, games available up to now - if people could code amazing stuff for Sharp MZ-700 (like these from Kazuhiro Furuhata - http://web700.marukun.com/ ), the same i believe is perfectly possible for VG5000)
- hardware like VG5000 really deserve more popularity in the retro scene, and i really want to help on making this possible! :) (i'm even asking Mojon Twins crew for coding games for that, they are amazing on coding good games on a good variety of 8bit hardware!)

Luso-brasileiro! )

Microsistemas was an amazing magazine where i learned a lot from there as well, and people from there like Divino Leitão and Renato Degiovani are trying to bring back Microsistemas online, in a collaborative way ( more info can be seen, for example, at http://www.revistamicrosistemas.com.br , http://www.facebook.com/groups/revistamicrosistemas , https://plus.google.com/communities/106 ... 3966262067 , etc. ) - In Brazil, i lived in Belo Horizonte and Ouro Preto, and have some family also in São Carlos

Great news the Renato 's attempt to bring back Microsistemas online.
BTW : The Forth compiler I did for VG5000 comes from Microsistemas N° 22 (july 1983)

Funny : I also lived for 8 years in BH (1975 - 1983) :D

the initiative were more from Divino than Renato, but Renato seems to be very supportive there when his busy life allows! :) - they are curious about the progress of Boriel's ZX-Basic Compiler as well! :)

i have to see it! :)

And me from 79 to 84 (i was between 6 and 12 years old then), around Serra and Savassi - what a small world! :D
