Creating Real TO8 Floppy Disks

Message par StarshipUK »

Apologies for posting English. I am looking for some help and advise again please.

My Thomson TO8 has been repaired by my friend and is now working correctly again. I also have the official 3.5" disk drive for the TO8 but only one disk containing games, which came with the TO8 when I purchased it.

I would like to create some more games floppy disks but am not sure how to do this.

I have downloaded DCFDUTIL and TO8 software from: http://dcmoto.free.fr/emulateur/index.html

I have chosen a disk and Exporter and Executer la fonction which has allowed me to extract the contents of the disk to my hard drive.

How do I copy the files using my PC to a disk so they can be used on the TO8? Is there a special tool to format the disks so they can be read on a TO8?

I have also tried to read the TO8 floppy disk I have got which is a DD disk using my PC and USB Floppy Disk Drive but it was unable to read the disk.

The best software to read or write a Thomson floppy disk on a PC is Omniflop driver with Windows XP or later (32 or 64 bits). Omniflop can format, read and write Thomson 3"1/2 floppies, single sided (320 KB) or double sided (640 KB). http://www.shlock.co.uk/Utils/OmniFlop/OmniFlop.htm

However, Omniflop needs a built-in floppy controller and drive. An USB external floppy drive cannot read or write anything else but Microsoft formated disks. With an USB drive, the easy way to transfer a disk image from PC to Thomson (and the other direction) is dctransferts : http://dcmoto.free.fr/programmes/dctran ... index.html

Another way is to use a serial link with CC90 : http://www.pulsdemos.com/cc90.html

You can also transfer disks from an amiga with this tool http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/ToDisk

There are 2 main disk image format for thomson
_ .fd or .raw : a raw image of the disk.
_ .sap : a thomson specific and old image format (that preserve some of the protections). ToDisk and sap2 can transfer back to a real disk but without preserving protection (so your transfer may fail if you start with an sap file).

There is a third image disk format used both by HxC emulator, Teo emulator (1.8.2+) and latest CC90. The .hfe format.

You should try SDMOTO with CS91-281 controller. http://dcmoto.free.fr/bricolage/index.html
With these devices, the TO8 can access disk images stored on an SD memory card (about 15000 Thomson disk images on a 32GB card).

I would love one of these. Unfortunately I do not own a CS91-281 (or CS91-280?) and not all sellers on EBay will ship from France to England. I have also mentioned before I do not have good enough technical skills to create this card. If someone was to make one and sell it pre-made I would buy it from them.
